Read only following 6 hadiths and decide yourself to keep telling lies on 1st April to make people ‘APRIL FOOL ’or to stop it and forwarding these hadiths to others…
As the month of March is about to end and month of April is coming up. On the 1st April, the day of April fool is celebrated on which people lie, play jokes, and mock by calling it as Entertainment. From small to big all type of lies are spoken on this day which many times results into great harms, even trauma and deaths.
Some people think that it is permissible to tell lies if it is in jest. This is the excuse that they use for telling lies on April 1st or on other days. This is wrong. There is no basis for this in the pure sharee’ah. Celebrating April Fool is completely Haram because Islam doesn’t allow such dishonest traditions that are based on lies and Mocking and cause big harms most of the times.
According to sharee’ah, lying is not permitted except in specific cases which do not lead to loss of rights, bloodshed or slander of people’s honour, etc., but which concern saving lives, reconciling between people, or creating love between husband and wife. Lying is haraam whether the one who does it is joking or is serious. It is clear from following 5 hadiths:
1. Speak only good:
The Prophet (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Let he who truly believes in Allah and the Last Day speak good or be silent.” [Saheeh al-Bukhari]

قتیبہ بن سعید، ابوالاحوص، ابوحصین، ابوصالح، حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کرتے ہیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ جو شخص اللہ اور قیامت کے دن پر ایمان رکھتا ہے وہ اپنے پڑوسی کو تکلیف نہ پہنچائے اور جو شخص اللہ اور قیامت کے دن پر ایمان رکھتا ہے اس چاہیے کہ مہمان کی ضیافت کرے اور جو شخص اللہ اور قیامت کے دن پر ایمان رکھتا ہے اس کو چاہیے کہ اچھی بات کہے یا خاموش رہے۔
2. Lying is not permitted even in Joke:
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: “The Prophet (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘I joke, but I speak nothing but the truth.’ [narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, 12/391]
This hadeeth was classed as hasan by al-Haythami in Majma’ al-Zawaa’id, 8/89, and classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani (may Allah have mercy on him) in Saheeh al-Jaami, 2494)
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: “They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, you joke with us.’ He said, ‘But I only speak the truth.’” [narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1990]
Abu ‘Eesa said: this is a saheeh hasan hadeeth.
شمائل ترمذی:جلد اول:حدیث نمبر 224
ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کہتے ہیں ، کہ صحابہ نے عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم آپ ہم سے مذاق بھی فرمالیتے ہیں ، حضور اقدس صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا ہاں مگر میں کبھی غلط بات نہیں کہتا۔
3. Lying is not permitted even to make people laugh:
It was narrated that Mu’aawiyah ibn Haydah said: “I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Woe to the one who talks to make the people laugh and tells lies, woe to him, woe to him.’” [narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 235. He said: this is a hasan hadeeth. Also narrated by Abu Dawood, 4990)].
The above Ahaadeeth show the gravity of participating in the false tradition of April Fool, which the Western tradition appreciates and encourages claiming that it brings joy and amusement, whereas the Prophet (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade lying and deceiving even if the intention of the person is to amuse people.

مسدد بن مسرحد، یحیی، حضرت بہز بن حکیم کہتے ہیں کہ مجھ سے میرے والد نے اپنے والد کے واسطہ سے بیان کیا انہوں نے فرمایا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا کہ ہلاکت ہے اس شخص کے لیے جو گفتگو میں قوم کو ہنسانے کے لیے جھوٹ بولے اس کی بربادی ہے اس کی بربادی ہے۔
4. Lying is not permitted even for fun:
Abd al-Rahman Ibn Abi Laylaa said: “The companions of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) told us that they were traveling with the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam). A man among them fell asleep and some of them went and took his arrows. When the man woke up, he got alarmed (because his arrows were missing) and the people laughed. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “What are you laughing at?” They said, “Nothing, except that we took the arrows and he got alarmed.” The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “It is not permissible for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim.” [Abu Dawood (5004) and Musnad Ahmad. Authenticated by Shaikh al-Albanee in Saheeh al-Jamee (7658)]
سنن ابوداؤد:جلد سوم:حدیث نمبر 1596 حدیث مرفوع مکررات 1
محمد بن سلیمان انباری، ابن نمیر، اعمش، عبداللہ بن یسار، حضرت عبدالرحمن بن ابی لیلی فرماتے ہیں کہ مجھ سے محمد رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے اصحاب نے بیان کیا کہ وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کیساتھ چلے جا رہے تھے سفر میں ان میں سے ایک شخص سو گیا تو ان میں سے بعض اس کی رسی کی طرف چلے جو اس کے ساتھ تھی اور اسے لے لیا وہ آدمی گھبرا گیا آپ نے فرمایا کہ مسلمان کے لیے جائز نہیں کہ دوسرے مسلمان کو گھبراہٹ میں مبتلا کر دے۔
5. Lying is not permitted even while playing with children:
It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “My mother called me one day when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting in our house. She said, ‘Come here, and I will give you (something).’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘What do you want to give him?’ She said, ‘I will give him a date.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘If you had not given him something, you would have been lying.’”

قتیبہ، لیث، ابن عجلان، مولی عبداللہ بن عامر بن ربیعہ عدوی، حضرت عبداللہ بن عامر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ وہ فرماتے ہیں کہ ایک روز میری والدہ نے مجھے بلایا اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہمارے گھر میں تشریف فرما تھے کہ میری والدہ نے کہا کہ اے ادھر آئیں تجھے چیز دوں گی۔ تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا کہ تو نے کیا چیز دینے کا ارادہ کیا ہے؟ وہ کہنے لگیں کہ میں اسے کھجور دوں گی۔ آپ نے ان سے فرمایا کہ بہرحال اگر تو اسے کچھ نہ دیتی تو تیرے اوپر ایک جھوٹ لکھا جاتا۔
And it was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever says to a child, ‘Come here and take this,’ then does not give him something, this is counted as a lie.’” [Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4991]
This hadeeth was classed as hasan by Shaykh al-‘Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1319.
6. Punishment for liars:
The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) described the severe punishments for the liars and said: “I saw (in a dream), two men came to me. They said, 'The person, the one whose cheek you saw being torn away (from the mouth to the ear) was a liar and used to tell lies and the people would report those lies on his authority till they spread all over the world. So he will be punished like that till the Day of Resurrection.'” [Saheeh al-Bukharee (vol. 8, no: 118)] {Summarized}

موسی بن اسماعیل، جریربن حازم، ابورجاء، سمرہ بن جندب رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب نماز پڑھ لیتے تھے تو ہماری طرف متوجہ ہوتے اور فرماتے کہ تم میں سے کسی نے رات کو خواب دیکھا ہے اگر کوئی شخص خواب دیکھتا تو اسے بیان کرتا آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس کی تعبیر فرماتے جو اللہ کو منظور ہوتا، چنانچہ آپ نے ایک دن ہم سے سوال کیا کیا تم میں سے کسی نے کوئی خواب دیکھا ہے ؟ ہم نے جواب دیا کہ نہیں، آپ نے فرمایا لیکن میں نے دیکھا ہے کہ دو شخص میرے پاس آئے اور میرا ہاتھ پکڑ کر ارض مقدسہ کی طرف لے گئے وہاں دیکھا کہ ایک شخص تو بیٹھا ہوا ہے اور دوسرا شخص کھڑا ہے اور اس کے ہاتھ میں (ہمارے بعض ساتھیوں نے کہا کہ) لوہے کا ٹکڑا ہے جسے اس (بیٹھے ہوئے آدمی) کے گلپھڑے میں ڈالتا ہے، یہاں تک کہ وہ گدی تک پہنچ جاتا ہے پھر اسی طرح دوسرے گلپھڑے میں داخل کرتا ہے اور پہلا گلپھڑا جڑ جاتا ہے، تو اس کی طرف پھر آتا ہے اور اسی طرح کرتا ہے، میں نے پوچھا کہ یہ کیا بات ہے؟ ان دونوں نے کہا وہ شخص جھوٹا ہے جو جھوٹی باتیں بیان کرتا تھا اور اس سے سن کر لوگ دوسروں سے بیان کرتے تھے یہاں تک کہ جھوٹی بات ساری دنیا میں پھیل جاتی ہے اس کے ساتھ قیامت تک ایسا ہی ہوتا رہے گا ۔
Narrated 'Abdullah:
The Prophet said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar."

عثمان بن ابی شیبہ، جریر، منصور، ابووائل، عبداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ سچائی نیکی کی طرف اور نیکی ہدایت کرتی ہے اور آدمی سچ بولتا رہتا ہے، یہاں تک کہ وہ صدیق ہوجاتا ہے اور جھوٹ بدکاری کی طرف اور بدکاری دوزخ کی طرف لے جاتی ہے اور آدمی جھوٹ بولتا رہتا ہے، یہاں تک کہ وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک کاذبین میں لکھا جاتا ہے۔
According to some people, the origin of April fool is also Anti-Islamic but the more important thing is that April fool is totally against Islamic guidelines. Islamic Festivals are Eid ul Adha and Eid ul Fitar that are mentioned in Quran and Hadith so we must celebrate our Festivals and remain away from such dishonest traditions of April fool that are against Islam as well as harmful for humanity.
May Allah protect us from indulging ourselves in such non-islamic and dishonest activities and may He give us the strength to withstand such practices when they tend to infect our Muslim Society. Ameen!
